AITA for not rushing to the bar?

My(26M) wife(23f) works as a bartender at a restaurant in my city during the weekends for some extra cash. During work she gets cat-called, offered money for sex, propositions for marriage, etc. This doesn't really bother me as they're just words and she just shrugs them off anyway. Recently, however, some drunk guy put his hands on her and when she told me I was obviously bothered by that. I told her if it gets to be too much to call me and tell me so I can drop what I'm doing and come handle it.
Well today I'm about to get back home while running errands while she's at work. I get a call from a random number because her phone died and it's my wife. Wife: hey babe what are you doing Me: Hey princess what's up? You drunk lol? Wife: haha yeah, a little, come here and have some drinks with my friends Me: alright bet, I'm about to be home from the store and I be there in a bit. Wife: ok love you Me: love you too, see you soon
Now she calls me while at work on a normal basis because either she's bored or to hangout there on a pretty regular basis so I think nothing of it and don't think anything is wrong.
So I'm home in the next 2 minutes or so, I fed our dog and let him out real quick because I'm thinking I'll be there for a few hours, change my shirt, brush my teeth and leave for the bar. All that maybe took a half hour. The restaurant is about 6-7 mins away and I'm there in that time. I sit down and immediately feel something is off but I ignore the feeling because she's smiling and acting normal. There are only a few people sitting at the bar now with a huge mess of just eaten food and empty beer bottles on the opposite side of the bar.
I sit down, get a beer and start watching the football game. After she finishes talking to her customer she mentions that the guys that left the huge mess were being really inappropriate and that she called me to come but I took too long to get there. Confused I say that she didn't say anything about that and called me happy and drunk telling me to come to the bar to hangout with her friends. She, visibly getting a little frustrated, said "yeah, I called because I needed help but you took your sweet time." Me: Huh? I fed the dog and changed my shirt and stuff because you didn't tell me you needed me right away. If you had I would have dropped whatever so was doing to help you out.
We go to the corner of the bar top to talk more. She explains that I told her to call me if anything was wrong and she did and I basically let her down by "taking my sweet time" I again explain that she didn't tell me what was going on and there was no indication that she needed me there right away. I ask why she just didn't say that she needed help and she said because she couldn't say it right there infront of her customers. I ask why she couldn't just step away into the kitchen real quick? Can't remember her response.
She blames me for not being there when she needed me.
AITA?
Edit: Update: Thanks guys for all your responses we're good now and the code word has been determined. "Come get some guacamole" or " babe, do you want me to bring you home some guacamole?".
Also to clarify I'm definitely not ok with all the nasty harassment she gets. When I say it didn't bother me I meant that I know there's really nothing I can do about it so I'm just loving with it. Of course I wish motherfuckers would just be fucking normal and buy their drinks and leave. I've brought this up to her before several times and she agrees it's really uncomfortable however it is a part of the job unfortunately and being an attractive woman earns her more tips. A somewhat necessary evil. She's wants to quit as much as I want her to but she's doing it so we can continue renovating our house. Additionally she was definitely offloading frustration and I definitely understand why she would be frustrated.

1. *Jets*- Trevor Lawrence-QB-Clemson
Sometimes you just don’t need to overthink it. Darnold’s failure in the Garden State wasn’t his own fault but you don’t pass on free, generational QBs like Lawrence. While you can try to get cute and make cases for Fields, Lance or Wilson, you really shouldn’t, especially with the 2021 scheme still TBD. Lawrence has the arm talent, IQ, athleticism, size and character to fit well in any scheme and any coaching staff. His only weakness I see is a reckless streak to force balls to his first option through tight windows. IMO this is simply a result of being more talented than the competition, throwing to receivers more talented than the opposition and having better scheming than the opposition. It should go away with NFL reps. Slam dunk pick. It’s time to bring sunshine to the garden state.
2. *Jaguars*- Justin Fields-QB-Ohio St
For as poor as their record is, the Jags actually have some pretty good pieces to build around. This has to be one of the youngest teams in football and with Coughlin gone, maybe they can actually start bringing in free agents and keeping stars in house. James Robinson, Laviska Shenualt, DJ Chark and a surprisingly good interior O-line lead by a potential all-pro in Brandon Linder give the offense a good baseline to build around. Give Justin Fields some good protection, an emerging young RB who can catch passes, an OC who can scheme first reads into space and a playmaking receiving group and we have a good chance to do something. For my money, Fields is the most accurate QB in the class and arguably the best at grasping route-tree concepts. Like Lawrence, he struggles to come off of his first read at times and for very similar reasons, though in his case it leads to less yolo balls and more tucking and running while second reads run free. He will need reps to come off of this, but in a quick-hitting system with playmakers, he could really hit the ground running.
3. *Bengals*- Penei Sewell-OT-Oregon
This pick is the easiest in the entire draft. Best LT I’ve personally scouted coming out to a team that needs it more than any other team, with an injured 1-1 QB who looked every bit the part in his rookie year. If it were any more obvious, Avril Lavigne would write a song about it.
4. *Broncos Via Cowboys*- Zach Wilson-QB-BYU
Either John Elway’s good will in Denver will be good enough to get him one last shot at drafting his QB, or a new regime will come in and want to draft their own QB. Either way, a new QB is coming, which is exciting given that they actually have some really good pieces on offense. Going with the idea that Elway remains, I can see Elway falling in love with either guy, likely seeing more of himself in Wilson, but Lance likely blowing him away in interviews and more importantly being slightly taller. In the end, while I have Lance rated higher, I think Elway will want to go the perceived safer route in Wilson, who is still a high ceiling player in his own right and has experience playing at high altitudes for BYU. Either way, I think Denver trading into the top 5 for a QB is one of the biggest locks of the draft. Dallas has a plethora of needs, but a healthy Dak Prescott has looked like a top 5 QB in recent years and is simply too good to walk away from. Since I have CB as their top need and Sewell off of the board, it makes sense for them to grab draft capital and still likely land a top 2-3 CB.
5. *Panthers Via Chargers*- Trey Lance-QB-NDSU
With Wilson off of the board, the Panthers pay a slight price to flip with the Chargers and ensure they get their QB. While I have Lance rated higher than Wilson for most teams, I actually slightly prefer Wilson in Carolina if they got their choice, but Lance is far too good to pass on. While Brady may not be able to run his full concept year one with Lance, Teddy’s still tentative nature has held back the offense at times and still lead to too many turnover worthy plays. They will need to slow down the game a bit for Lance if he starts from day one, but they have the pieces to do so. Lance will add a game-breaking dynamic to open up the entire field with his arm, while taking pressure off of CMC and demanding QB spies. This should really open things up for Brady to slowly unleash Lance. They have the pieces to have one of the best offenses in football (and the coaching) if this hits. With so many targets schemed into space and a heavy dose of CMC to make defenses respect the run, Lance’s potential accuracy issues will be muted and he has the ability to drive the ball in ways that help receivers functionally be more open than with a touch passer. They are also perfectly situated to start a cheap Teddy until Lance is ready with a long term minded coaching staff and ownership. Really like this fit and team.
6. *Eagles*- Caleb Farley-CB-Virginia Tech
I could see a case for the Eagles going after Chase here, but with how poor the Eagles secondary has been this year outside of an aging Darius Slay, I can’t see them passing on a talent like Farley. Jim Schwartz likes to put a ton of pressure on his secondary and Maddox/NRC simply don’t have the size or physicality to deal with what’s asked of them. IMO Farley has the highest ceiling of any CB i’ve scouted since Ramsey and similarly has the rare combo of size, speed and football IQ to match up with any receiver or QB in the game. The former QB still knows how to think like a CB and has the ball skills that made him highly recruited as a WR before he transitioned to CB. Farley checks every physical box, every mental box, every playmaking box and is said to have a home run character. If i’m searching for an issue, he can take an occasional miss-step in zone, but Schwartz is famously averse to soft zone. Farley has a bit of an injury history and is still fairly new to the position, but he has all-pro potential, a high floor and is a much needed good fit for this Eagles secondary. They can’t afford to pass on him.
7. *Chargers Via Panthers*- Samuel Cosmi-OT-Texas
The Chargers traded back, acquiring two fourths to make stomaching reaching for a tackle a bit easier. Still they have to do it. They look to have a franchise QB and play-action can only mask so much. The line is simply terrible. Per PFF, the Chargers line ranks as follows: tackles Sam Tevi and Brian Bulaga (71st and 56th out of 78 with Pipkins ranked 77th getting snaps), Trai Turner and Forrest Lamp (81st and 74th of 83) at guard and Dan Feeney (35th of 36) at center. Oof. The only borderline passable starter is a Bulaga at RT who will be 32 next year. With a QB who has wheels and big money tied to a fleet footed Ekeler, I think adding lateral mobility and athleticism to the line is a must. Cosmi isn’t a finished product technically or physically but he has the frame to add good weight while maintaining plus athleticism at the blind side and is used to playing with a mobile QB who will make life tougher on him. He rarely fully loses reps and should provide an immediate upgrade from Tevi, while having an extremely high ceiling. It’s time to change the identity of that line and lean into the play action game that is keeping the offense functional, even if I have Darrishaw rated slightly higher, I prefer this fit.
8. *Football Team*- Ja’Marr Chase-WR-LSU
People seem to be forgetting how good Ja’Marr Chase is after a year off. Justin Jefferson has been one of the best receivers in the entire NFL his rookie year, Terrace Marshall is a borderline round one guy, CEH was a first round pick and yet the most impressive skill player on that 2019 LSU team was Chase. While the Football Team clearly doesn’t have a long term solution at QB, the top 4 guys are gone and I’m not sure they have the skill players or line for a new QB to ever be successful anyways. When your receivers 2-5 are Steven Sims, Cam Sims, Dontrell Inman and Isaiah Wright, you don’t pass on a Ja’Marr Chase. Easily the worst 2-5 in the NFL. Logan Thomas isn’t a top 30 TE either. There are some pieces in DC. McLaurin is a stud and Gibson is everything I hoped he would be. The line has some good pieces, but have two weak links in Martin and Christian that need to be replaced before it can become functional. With a year left on Smith’s deal and 50 mil in cap space, the FT can afford to bring back Scherff, upgrade from Martin and take a swing on a mid round QB. Worst case scenario they go all in on a 2021 QB but actually have the pieces in place for him to hit the ground running.
9. *Lions*- DeVonta Smith-WR-Alabama
The Lions currently have Quintez Cephus and Geronimo Allison as receivers under contract in 2021...that’s it. They have approximately 1.23M in available cap space as it currently stands. I still expect them to figure out a way to bring back Kenny G, but even then, they are going to need a day one starter at WR. My mind is telling me Jaylen Waddle’s speed will get him to top 10, but I don’t love how his game meshes with Stafford nor am I fully confident he’s ready to go day one in 2021. Smith may be built like a teen who just hit a growth spurt but he’s a day one starter in the NFL and his game meshes really well with both Stafford and compliments Golladay’s. I’m really interested to see who takes in Detroit next year, but whoever it is, a potential unit of Kenny G, DeVonta Smith, an emergent TJ Hockenson and D’Andre Swift isn’t the worst place to start.
10. *Falcons*- Kwity Paye-Edge-Michigan
The Falcons need a pass rusher off of the edge, we all know that, it just comes down to which one; so having Rousseau, Paye and Parsons all still on the board is a dream scenario. While I personally have them rated Parsons, Rousseau and then Paye, it’s close enough between all three to go by fit. I honestly think the Falcons have a very strong linebacker corps and won’t get the greatest usage out of Parsons and while I love the idea of Rousseau sliding inside next to Grady Jarrett on 3rd and long, I think they need to go for day one impact and mainly the best all around true edge. For me, that makes Paye the best fit. Always a true freak athlete (which, check out Bruce Feldman’s freak list (https://theathletic.com/1938659/2020/07/21/bruce-feldmans-freaks-list-2019-college-football-top-athletic-performances-2/) but in 2020 he has made a herculean jump in production and polish. This a day one starter, with incredibly rare athletic traits, a feel good backstory and immediate impact at a gigantic need.
11. *Dolphins Via Texans*- Micah Parsons-LB-Penn St
I don’t need to go into too much detail here. The Dolphins have one of the NFL’s few good defenses thanks to a strong secondary and simply elite play calling and positioning from Flores/Boyer. That’s despite Elandon Roberts and Jerome Baker’s poor play and general talent. So what if we gave them a uniquely talented player who can play inside, outside and even play as a pure edge while fitting what the scheme wants to do perfectly? I can’t wait to find out. I think Parsons is still somewhat raw as a player and will have a few rough moments early on, simply because he’s been so so so much more naturally gifted than his competition for his entire life and hasn’t been punished for small mistakes. That said, I can’t think of a better landing spot at getting the most out of him early on and putting him in positions to succeed, nor can I think of a better player at mentoring him than Kyle Van Noy. Parsons will be an immediate upgrade and the potential for what he could grow into in Miami is tantalizing. Thanks Houston.
12. *Cowboys Via Broncos*- Patrick Surtain II-CB-Alabama
The Cowboy’s trade back pays off. I would have been between Surtain and Farley at 4th overall and while I would have leaned Farley, the gap certainly isn’t a 2022 (likely somewhat early) 1st rounder and a 4th. Pairing Surtain up with his college counterpart in Diggs should allow Diggs to go back to his natural 2 spot and provide an immediate upgrade from the triumvirate of Awuzie, Brown and Lewis. Surtain may not be the fastest straight line runner, but his hips are as smooth as they come and he makes up for any long speed deficiencies with elite mirroring and physicality. Surtain has improved as a tackler in 2020 and is probably the best day one starter at CB in this class. The Cowboys will need some safety help over the top against speed receivers, but this is an easy pick.
13. *Bears*- Christian Darrisaw-OT-Virginia Tech
The Bears would love a top 4 QB to fall into their laps at 13, but I just don’t know if they have the assets to afford a move into the top 5 right now. With Nick Foles more expensive to cut than to keep and only 2 mil in expected cap room in 2021, they will need to clear up some space. They happen to have two expensive tackles that are playing solidly but are the only non Akiem Hicks way to open up a big chunk of cap. With Ifedi a free agent expecting to see a bigger contract in 2021, the Bears have a day one need at tackle. Luckily for them, my #2 rated tackle is still on the board and is an absolute monster when he’s set and moves extremely well for his size. There are some issues getting set, but he has an extremely high ceiling and could help open up some much needed cap space for Chicago, while providing a long term solution to a two tackles who are due a lot of money, are cheap to cut and getting onto the wrong side of 30 (and coming off of a severe knee injury in Massie’s case). A receiver is an option here if they cant bring back A-Rob, as could be CB if they cut Fuller. Safety appears as a need as well, but nobody is close to a value this early. Darrishaw is the best value to need for me.
14. *Vikings*- Gregory Rousseau-Edge-Miami (FL)
I looooove this pick. A lot of people are low on Rousseau since he isn’t a finished product, but I think that’s pretty unfair. Rousseau, in his first year as a starter managed 15.5 sacks and 19.5 TFL. While his pressure rate made the sack total seem unsustainable, this is a player who will always have a high sack to pressure ratio due to his insane length, absurd speed to power and insane closing burst. Rousseau is unlikely to be a finished product in 2021, he needs to improve his move repertoire and would do well to use his length to shut down passing lanes. But he has a much higher floor than people give him credit for because he does such a good job of using his length to keep defenders outside of his body and can always detach from blocks. He physically resembles Jevon Kearse, which is something I’ve never said before and his athletic testing is going to be nutty. From a traits perspective this is a once every 5-10 years prospect. Minnesota has done a great job developing high ceiling players and have needs across the D-line. Rousseau setting an edge on run downs and sliding inside for passing downs (where he will be a nightmare from day one) will be a huge asset for the Viks. I can’t see them passing on Rousseau should he be on the board at 14 barring a sliding Trey Lance.
15. *Patriots*- Jaylen Waddle-WR-Alabama
It baffles me that a great defensive mind like BB has allowed himself to have such a slow receiver group, but I can’t imagine him just allowing it to remain as is. The Pats have holes along the D-line and would love a franchise QB, but have played themselves out of contention for the clear round one talents. While I have to imagine Kyle Pitts would be extremely enticing here, he doesn’t offer the ability to play in-line/move nor would he be functional slid in at FB. Without the ability to disguise playcalls, I see Waddle as the pick here to add some much needed electricity and field stretching ability despite having Pitts rated slightly higher. Jakobi Meyers has emerged as a solid receiver for the Pats and the ghost of Julian Edelman remains. With Waddle demanding defensive attention, perhaps he can open up some free space for N’Keal Harry to finally realize some of the yac ability that got him drafted so highly. Edge has to be tempting, but with Rousseau and Paye both off of the board the gap between what Waddle brings to the table vs a second round receiver and a Basham type vs who will be there at 46 leans heavily in Waddle’s favor. Assuming he’s fully healthy at the combine, I think this is Waddle’s floor.
16. *49ers*- Jaycee Horn-CB-South Carolina
The 49ers would love to see a top 4 QB fall to 16 and have to be somewhat interested in Trask and Jones as scheme fits, but they also currently have literally zero cornerbacks under contract for 2021, nor are they particularly flush with cap space nor do they have a third round pick. Jaycee Horn is not only my clear cut CB3 (maaaybe can see a case for Stokes) but he’s also a great fit for what Saleh wants to do should he remain in town. This is one of the easier picks in the first for me. Good fit, arguably best player available and absolutely massive, gaping, day one need. Wyatt Davis is a strong 1B for me though.
17. *Jaguars Via Raiders*- Kyle Pitts-TE-Florida
The Jags have a ton of picks early this year, a coordinator who excels at using athletic receiving TE, a rookie QB who they will be heavily invested in succeeding, a clear need at TE and a likely willing trade partner in Las Vegas. Trading up to grab Pitts is a no-brainer for me. He’s a top 10 talent in the class who could legitimately compete for WR1 in the class should he be listed that way. Is he a great blocker? No. But he’s literally breaking records at catching contested balls, runs the crispest routes i’ve ever seen from a TE and is going to be a prime Jimmy Graham level end-zone threat who can win at every point on the field. Who matches up with this guy? Not a CB, not an LB, maaaaaybe Isaiah Simmons on his best day or a Derwin James? Factor in Jay Gruden knowing exactly how to use this kind of talent and how ridiculously accurate Justin Fields is and you have to make this trade. A Justin Fields offense with this receiving group and Gruden calling plays gets me excited. Just need a tackle and a defense and we may just have something here. Jason Mendoza would be ecstatic.
18. *Ravens*-Wyatt Davis-IOL-Ohio St
The Ravens are reeeeally missing Marshall Yanda and Davis is easily the top IOL in this class for me. I think the Ravens are trying to move away from their 2019 offensive strategy since the don’t have the pieces, but the answer is actually to rebuild around what actually worked. That has to start in the trenches. Wyatt Davis embodies Ravens football. He is a genuine people mover, but he doesn’t sacrifice speed or mobility to achieve that power. He’s pure controlled aggression, and if that’s not a Harbaugh player, I don’t know Harbaugh. If Davis played any other position, he wouldn’t be on the board at 18. Plug and play week one starter who can help get the Ravens back to the 2019 glory. If Pitts is off of the board, this has to be the pick.
19. *Giants*- Joseph Ossai-Edge-Texas
The Giants situation isn’t as bad as I thought at first glance. They haven’t had the best offensive line pay, but with Nate Solder set to return in ‘21, Andrew Thomas starting to look closer to a top 10 pick and Matt Peart as an interesting developmental piece, it felt early to reach on a tackle and I don’t love any interior lineman enough to pull the trigger here. Receiver is a glaring need, but I think there will still be impact starters to get in round two and money to spend in FA as needed. I don’t hate Daniel Jones from my looks and think if the line and skill positions improve around him, he still has a chance to develop into a second contract sort of guy. He deserves his 40 start sample size. With Saquon set to return, that leaves edge as the most glaring need. Leonard Williams and Dalvin Tomlinson are both free agents (though should imo be brought back) and Kyle Fackrell doesn’t deserve another season as a starter. In Patrick Graham’s multiple 3-4 front, there happen to be two exciting players who fit the rush LB mold extremely well and fit value wise. Azeez Ojulari and Jospeh Ossai. I have Ossai rated slightly higher on my board and love his fit in this defense as a better early down linebacker with a higher athletic ceiling in coverage and better length to entice Gettleman while avoiding combo blocks. The dude is no slouch as a pass rusher either. I love the player and love the fit in a defense that might just emerge in ‘21 if things go right.
20. *Cardinals*- Eric Stokes-CB-Georgia
The Cardinals 2021 will have Patrick Peterson, Johnathan Joseph and Dre Kirkpatrick all hitting free agency next year, leaving just slot corner Byron Murphy and a soon to be 33 year old Robert Alford coming off a broken leg to end 2019, torn pec that cost him all of 2020 who can be cut to clear 7.5M of cap space. Corner jumps out as a need both long term and potentially from day one. Few players in this class have impressed me as much as Stokes has. Stokes has always been a technically sound player who shines bright outside in press, with loose hips and long arms to obscure passing lanes. But in 2020, he’s taken that next step into a playmaker. Despite teams tending to avoid throwing at him, he’s flashed greatly improved ball skills and even housed two of the picks he has. I think this is a true all around outside corner who can fit in any scheme and do whatever is asked of him. I don’t exactly see a pro bowl ceiling here, but I think Stokes might be the safest CB in this entire class and it wouldn’t shock me if he had the best rookie year of this solid corner class. People tend to underrate a good, polished CB2 chasing upside that doesn’t always fully develop. Draft good football players.
21. *Buccaneers*- Azeez Ojulari-Edge-Georgia
In a down IDL class, I’m tempted to reach for Barmore here and with Donovan Smith able to be cut to clear 14.25M in 2021, a polished tackle like Eichenberg is somewhat enticing. But with both Lavonte David and Shaq Barrett set to be expensive free agents next year, I think a rush LB/edge hybrid is the biggest need and it just so happens Ojulari is still on the board. When I watch Ojulari I pretty much see Shaq Barrett. A smaller, still long bursty/bendy player who can rush the passer at an elite rate, but will struggle setting an edge. Barrett is a good player, but he’s going to demand a contract that will pay him more than he’s worth and take him into the wrong side of 30. Ojulari can replace something very close to Barrett on rushing downs while a cheap Anthony Nelson is already an elite edge setter on run downs. Lavonte David is a much harder player to replace IMO and they should give him the big contract. Between Nelson and Ojulari, I think they can replace Barrett for 20M less a year and honestly, the pairing has a higher ceiling if everything comes together. It will also help the Bucc’s line get younger, which is much needed for future outlook. I can’t think of a better coach than Todd Bowles to max out a guy like Ojulari. Love this fit.
22. *Dolphins*- Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah-LB-Notre Dame
After addressing linebacker with pick number 11, the Dolphins double down and draft another at pick 22. If you’re going to start two monster rush LB like Kyle Van Noy and Micah Parsons, it sure as hell won’t hurt to have an absolute speed freak to fly around and neutralize both TE and speed backs. The closest thing I’ve seen to Owusu-Koramoah is basically the 2020 Seahawks version of Jamal Adams (minus the injury) undersized for an LB but incredibly fast, incredibly good at deciphering plays and a surprisingly good blitzer. The dude finishes tackles against future sunday morning players too. As mentioned earlier, Elandon Roberts and Jerome Baker ain’t it, especially in a mainly odd front defense. JOK offers a truly unique skill set that not only compliments the pieces already there well, but will be maximized by a coach like Flores. The Dolphins have needs on the O-line, receiver and RB, but you won’t find another JOK in the second round, where they have two picks. Perhaps they can target Owusu-Koramaoh’s son, Travis Etienne with one of those picks.
23. *Colts*- Jaelan Phillips-Edge-Miami (FL)
The Colts have needs at WR,CB and will likely do their due diligence on the remaining QBs. However, the Colts top 3 snap getters on the edge (Houston, Muhammad and Autry) are all free agents, only Houston has been performing well and he’s already 32. Even if he returns, edge will be a need. While Phillips won’t be the top edge available on every team's board here due to a very small sample size and a long injury history, I have to imagine Ballard will be head over heals for this player. Ballard has shown in the past he wants to target athletes with length and Phillips has both in spades. The former #1 overall recruit has insane length, insane burst, elite bend, elite speed to power and knows how to use all four to be first to contact and shed tackles like snake skin. Phillips measurables and 2020 tape are clear cut first round grades and had he had three healthy years, he might be the top edge in the class. The dude even wins in coverage at 6’5 265. The question is, do you trust him to stay healthy. He’s the type of player that will be top 15 on 8 teams boards, mid day two on 10 teams boards and completely off of 14 teams boards. I think Ballard is going to fall in the first group of GMs and he will rush to the podium to get Phillips in the building.
24. *Browns*- Zaven Collins-LB-Tulsa
The Browns have clear needs at edge and linebacker. If Owusu-Koramoah were on the board, he’d be the pick and Dylan Moses has to make them think. But I think they instead get them somebody who can do both. Andrew Berry has shown a strong correlation of draft picks to PFF grades and guess who PFF’s top graded LB in all of college football is? Zaven Collins. More than just questionably important player grades at Tulsa, Zaven Collins has the unteachable traits you can’t coach and scouting teams will love. 6’4 260 pound men shouldn’t be able to move like this. Collins is nimble and agile and is going to blow up the combine. I’d bet money on that. He uses this blend of size and agility to simple avoid blocks at Tulsa but has the size and length to easily disengage at any level. He is borderline elite in coverage and has bullied American conference passers into 2 pass deflections and 4 picks (which he’s returned for 152 yards and 2 TDs) in just 6 2020 games. Collins can rush the passer as well and has legit edge size. Collins currently plays more fast (which he is) than powerful (which he also is). I’d like to see him learn to use his size to initiate contact and bully people at the point of contact because he absolutely can, but I guess why do it when you can just avoid them completely. The game speeds up from the American conference to the AFC North, but I think Collins is a day one LB, special teams force and has potential to develop into a very special player. Watching him play, he reminds me of a cross between KJ Wright and Jamie Collins, but bigger. Fun Player and easy fit.
25. *Raiders Via Jaguars*- Christian Barmore-IDL-Alabama
After trading back and acquiring an extra top 70 pick, the Raiders select the player they wanted all along. The Raiders need a more consistent pass rush. Clelin Ferell has taken a huge step forward in 2020, but he will always be a stop the run player more than a sack artist (as is Nassib), while I’m not ready to give up on Maxx Crosby, he hasn’t been the same player he was in 2019 (or close to it). Maurice Hurst has been their only good pass rusher for my money, but he will need help inside. Johnathan Hankins is a free agent, soon to be on the wrong side of 30. Vickers and Collins certainly aren’t the answer. In a down IDL class, Barmore is the only player I can see ging round one and is easily my top IDL in the class. Is he a polished player and tactician? Nope. NFL double teams will likely eat him if he can’t add more moves or play with better leverage. That said, if you try to double him, Hurst is gonna murder your quarterback. Barmore has rare length, bend and power for an interior player. He already wins against SEC lineman and can play all across the line despite being 310 pounds. When he wins, he wins quickly and is an immediate disruptive force up the middle. Put him outside in short yardage situations and back inside on clear passing downs and he will immediately be an upgrade for the black and silver. He won’t be a 3-down guy year one, but that doesn’t mean he won’t make an impact. Long term, the sky is the limit. This is the only IDL in this class I can envision making a pro bowl. He also just so happens to come from the winning culture that Gruden?Mayock love. It just makes too much sense not to happen.
26. *Jets Via Seattle*- Carlos Basham-Edge-Wake Forest
It’s still TBD who will be the Jets DC in 2021, but I think they have personnel best suited for a true multiple front but could certainly use a genuinely polished power edge suited to play both 3-4 and 4-3 edge. Basham is that guy and while Joe Douglas has a love for quick twitch athletes off of the edge, I think Boogie Basham would make too much sense to pass up on here. Basham (who’s cousin Tarrell is a current Jet likely to be brought back for 2021) is a relentless load to handle on the perimeter who has the kind of day one polish this team needs. Basham has a fantastic grasp on how to clog gaps on run downs, is a sure tackler with his massive wingspan, sheds blocks with a very impressive and polished array of moves, never seems to be out of position, doesn’t over pursue and get out of position and man knows how to use his long-limbed frame to create chaos. Across his last 19 games, he has forced 7 fumbles and tipped 4 passes despite being double and triple teamed week in, week out. Basham isn’t a poor athlete by any means, but I would say he’s more of a day two bend/burst combo than typical day one. That said, he has day one starter polish at 285, makes the players around him better and creates turnovers. This isn’t your 10 sack a year guy, but it’s your 6-8 sack a year, consistent 3 down/scheme versatile edge who makes the players around him better and brings much needed leadership skills.
27. *Titans*- Dylan Moses-LB-Alabama
I expect this to be one of my most controversial picks in this mock. With Clowney a free agent again, edge is a glaring need, but unless you want to reach big time for an edge there isn’t anybody left. With only 10M of cap space currently in 2021, Corey davis has likely priced himself out of town with a boom season. WR is a need but one that can be addressed later. Daquan Jones will need to be replaced at DT. But with Jayon Brown likely gone in 2021, I have to think the former LB and the former Patriot in Mike Vrabel is going to fall in love with Dylan Moses the player; as well as Dylan Moses the person. Moses is a freak athlete with a freak work ethic who clearly just loves the game of football. The movement skills, power and tackling ability are all special. That said, he’s had a somewhat down year. He has good instincts, but you can visually see him second guess himself and overthink plays. RPO’s, sudden moves and good routes have eaten him up in 2020. Who better to teach a special ball of clay how to turn his brain off than Vrabel? Moses will be a day one starter, immediate locker room leader and running back neutralizer in day one for the Titans. There will be some rough moments early on, but this is the kind of player Vrabel loves and the ceiling is really high for this pairing. A reach for Jason Oweh or Jay Tufele feel possible here as well, as could a Bateman or Marshall pick.
28. *Bills*- Shaun Wade-CB-Ohio St
Bills could use an edge if they can’t bring back Murphy, would have to take a long look at Moses if he were on the board and could really use a Pat Freiermuth...but if the draft falls like this I expect them to run to the podium. Josh Norman, Levi Wallace and Daryl Worley are all free agents in 2021 and Taron Johnson isn’t particularly good. With just 4.8M in 2021, this likely means the Bills will need a minimum of one cheap starting CB and likely both a slot and outside guy. Wade can fill both roles and is simply too talented to remain on the board here. Easy pick to make.
29. *Packers*- Rashod Bateman-WR-Minnesota
Do the Packers seemingly ever draft WR round one? No. Should they? Yep. Do they currently have the cap space to bring back Allan Lazard? Lol no. They have -18M in cap space next year. It’s worth noting that this means they are extremely unlikely to be able to resign Aaron Jones, which explains the weird AJ Dillon reach and opens up RB as a possibility. That makes me tempted to grab Kadarius Toney as a Kamara role hybrid, but that doesn’t seem like a Packers move. Terrace Marshall feels like a Packers pick, but he doesn’t block as well as Bateman and won’t be quite as good day one. I think Gutekunst will fall in love with Bateman’s boundary receiving skills, Rodgers will lobby hard for a receiver that wins with a skillset similar to Davante Adams and LaFleur will fall in love with Bateman’s alpha run-blocking game. Toss in the fact that Bateman in Green Bay will rip the heart out of Vikings fans and it’s an all around win. Linebacker is an absolutely glaring need, but all the good ones are gone and the Packers seem to hate drafting them even more than hate drafting receivers. Love this fit and pick.
30. *Chiefs*- Rashawn Slater-OT-Northwestern
The Chiefs have had one hell of a run, but 2021 will be the beginning of having to pay the piper. Even without resigning Sammy Watkins, Charvarius Ward, Breeland, Nieman, Wilson, osemele, Rieters, Remmers, Wylie, Robinson, Lev Bell, Sorenson, kpassagnon and Pennell among players who saw heavy snaps in 2020; they will be -15M in 2021 cap space. And that’s BEFORE the roster gets expensive in 2022. This means, at minimum two of the Honey Badger, Mitchell Schwartz and Eric Fisher will be cap casualties. Basically the entire o-line and secondary will be needs, as well as 1-2 WR. Rashawn Slater of “the only player not to be sucked into the void by Chase Young in 2019” fame can play 4 of the line slots, moves incredibly well for a man his size, can play in cold weather and is apparently loved by “NFL types”. This feels like a pick the Chiefs have to make.
31. *Saints*- Tyson Campbell-CB-Georgia
If you thought the Chiefs cap situation was bad….the Saints currently have -95M of cap space in 2021. -95M. Jared Cook, Alex Anzalone, Sheldon Rankins, Marcus Williams and Trey Hendrickson are impact free agents who won’t be able to be resigned. Making LB, FS, Edge and IDL big needs. Ryan Ramczyk, Marshon Lattimore, Malcolm Brown and Kwon Alexander almost 100% have to be cut. It’s a bad spot to be in. Tackle, QB, LB, DT and CB all stand out as the biggest needs. With two QB’s fully guaranteed over 33M in dead cap in 2021, reaching for a QB round one doesn’t seem likely. Jaylen Mayfield or a Liam Eichenberg seem possible, as could a Jay Tufele but there will be more potential day one starters there round two than CB. Tyson Campbell has injury concerns and has had a pretty poor 2020, but he looks built in a lab to be a CB1. I think this is the replacement for a Lattimore that the Saints simply can’t afford next year. It’s a very wide range of possible outcome player, but it’s a risk they have to take.
32. *Steelers*- Jalen Mayfield-OT-Michigan
The Steelers are yet another team in 2021 cap hell. Sitting pretty at -20M in 2021, the Steelers will have Bud Dupree, Juju, James Conner, Matt Feiler, Cam Sutton, Mike Hilton, Robert Spillane and Tyson Alualu as free agent starters. Edge, OT, CB and RB all jump out as big needs even before cap casualties and the QB of the future still isn’t in the building. In particular, tackle, edge and RB jump out as needs. Jalen Mayfield is a lab built tackle with great length, power and agility wrapped up in a prototypical frame. He is not yet a finished product, who struggles against speed to power and gets over his toes at times. But he has the traits you can’t teach and should thrive in a power concept. Year one will be up and down and in a perfect world, he’d have a year or two to season. Maybe Eichenberg will be a better fit. But he just screams Steelers power football when he gets his lower half right. I can’t see Mike Tomlin go for a RB with the ball security issues Etienne has and while Harris will be tempting, the needs up front are just too much to pass up on a potential starter.

PSG - This Is England 2019

The plan is simple: Replace all of PSG’s pampered and overpaid squad with some English grit and determination. Who needs the likes of Neymar & Mbappe when you could have Andros Townsend & Jonjo Shelvey? Thiago Silva? Run that name through google translate and you get Phil Jones. And who could forget free transfer Daniel Sturridge? Cavani will be the first out the door when Sturridge signs.
All I need to do is avoid getting sacked. So I need to balance by pursuit of the entire England team with good results on the field. And eventually I will need to somehow sell Neymar & Mbappe without incurring the wrath of the fans and/or board.
First Summer transfer window.
IN
OUT
So, that’s half my pre-season friendlies sorted for next year.
Easily won the Trophee des Champions 3-0 vs Rennes. 2 Marquinhos goals and an OG.
Leading into the new season, I told Marquinhos that I was going to replace him as Vice Captain. He was fine with it. I picked Jordan Henderson as my new Vice Captain. Thiago Silva is still the main man... for now.
There are rumblings of a possible takeover. Could I be sacked before England FC has the chance to win the French League?
The bookies have me at evens to win the league. EVENS? If I could I’d bet the entire transfer budget on that. Evens? I’m PSG with Jack Wilshere. I’m basically unstoppable.
3 days before the opening league fixture, Jack Wilshere tore his ankle ligaments in training. I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.
Good thing I didn’t make that bet. With Jack out I’ll have to rely on the likes of (check’s squad list) Neymar for creativity.
Won the opening game of the season 2-0 against Strasborg. This included Ben Chilwell scoring a screamer into the top corner from 25 yards and a Neymar tap in. Jude Bellingham also became PSG's youngest ever player as he started in midfield.
I forgot to mention that I am also hiring lots of English staff members. Terry Butcher is managing my reserves. Paul Ince, Teddy Sheringham, James Beattie and Tony Adams are coaching my youth team. Les Reed is my director of football. David Platt is coaching the first team. I’ve also got English physios and fitness staff, but I can’t be arsed to look up their names.
2-0 again in the next game, this time away to Marseille. For the 2nd game running Ben Chilwell scored, followed by a tidy finish from Jordan Henderson.
I'm currently playing with a half English team in the outfield. Fullbacks, CM, AM and Striker are all English. The wingers, centre backs, 1 CM and keeper are all non-English. Daniel Sturridge sits on the bench… brooding.
1-0 next up against Montpellier. Chilly Willy's run of scoring came to an end as Neymar bagged the only goal of the game. On the downside Mbappe pulled his ankle ligaments and will be out for a couple of weeks.
More rumblings of a take over. The PSG owner rubbishes these rumours. Looks like he’s behind England Rangers and their plans to restart the 100 years war.
4-1 win away to AS Saint-Etienne. A hat trick for Neymar along with Mason Greenwood's first goal for the club helped to mask the pain of finally conceding for the first time this season. Keylor Navas really shat the bed trying to pass out from the back. I can’t help but think that Jordan Pickford would have kept the sheets clean.
UCL Group drawn. The Media describe my group as “Tough” as I am drawn against Valencia, Napoli and RB Leipzig.
I don’t include Herrera or Munier in my UCL squad and they are both unhappy. I tell them to shut up and drop both into the reserves. Neither apologises and both are sulking. Luckily nobody in the squad likes them so nobody cares.
One of my young midfielders breaks his back whilst lifting weights. I think Jack Wilshere was giving him pointers.
Jordan Henderson scores his first ever international goal in his 53rd cap. I can’t help but feel that is entirely down to my coaching.
Jack Wilshere is back in light training.
Verratti, Neymar & Mbappe score in a 3-0 demolition of Toulouse. Henderson bags an assist. Daniel Sturridge still can’t open his account for PSG.
First UCL game is next up. Valencia at home. Verratti and Neymar are both suspended. I seem to remember this being to do with their reactions to losing in the knock out stages to Man U in the previous season, following that ridiculous penalty decision given against… Kimpembe? I refuse to look it up to verify. That’s the past. This is the present. Neymar is replaced by Angel Gomes for his debut. That’s easy enough. However, the lack of Verratti and with Herrera rotting away in the reserves, I may be forced to play Wilshere before he’s fully fit… but since he’s never ever ever been fully fit, this seems like the right thing to do!
Boom! We smash Valencia 2-0. Wilshere setting up Greenwood with a defence splitting through pass, and Tavernier crossing to the edge of the box for Henderson to drill home. Wilshere had to be subbed off at half time since he’s Jack Wilshere. Still. 1 game. 1 assist. I am fully justified in signing him.
Big game up next vs Lyon. 1st vs 2nd. For a game like this I need my top players. Wilshere is getting his league debut. Verratti will have to be happy with a spot on the bench.
Oh. Kehrer is set to play against me for the first time since I sold him. Apparently there is “no love lost” between us. I’d honestly forgot I sold him to Lyon. I tell the media that his was a shitbag and nobody liked him here.
A superb come from behind victory for The Englishmen! After trailing to an early penalty conceded by Silva, we turned things around to win 2-1 with goals from Mbappe and Marquinos, assisted by Maddison and Chilwell. Wilshere once again managed 45 mins of football. And that shitbag Kehrer didn’t even play.
Damn. Marquinhos is suspended for a game after 3 bookings in his last 10 matches. I didn’t know that was how the French League did things. Interesting.
Chuopo-Moting dislocated his jaw in training. I can only assume that Jack Wilshere was trying to teach him how to eat a Cornish Pasty in one go.
Holy crap. I almost lost to Metz! 2-0 down going into the final quarter of the match. Needed a 91st minute equaliser from Neymar to avoid defeat. Still, unbeaten so far. I really need some English grit to toughen my central defence. Silva is good and all, but he’s no John Stones.
Before every single game: Jack Wilshere may struggle to see out the match.
I know. He’s Jack Wilshere.
We beat Angers 3-1 with Tavernier (pen) and Angel Gomes both bagging their first goals for the club. Neymar gets the 3rd off the bench. Gomes gets the MOTM award to go with the goal.
Napoli away next. Wilshere set to start his 5th game in a row for probably the first time in his whole career. Neymar is still suspended, so Gomes will be able to build on his man of the match performance with another start.
The board have announced that they have decreased the percentage of transfer revenue available to be retained from player sales to 75%. What the fuck? I’M PSG!!! I want 200% of all sales to go back into the transfer kitty.
We beat Napoli 2-0 with goals from Greenwood and Marquinhos. Greenwood set up Marquinhos by heading a corner back across goal to him, whilst Wilshere set up Greenwood with another great defence splitting through pass, just like the Valencia game. Wilshere lasted 63 mins this game, having been subbed off at half time of every previous game. Still, those 63 mins were enough to win him the MOTM award. Go Jack!
Side quest unlocked: Somehow get Jack Wilshere back into the England squad.
Wilshere is grateful for my faith in him. Aw, Jackie. I love you too, boo.
The Montpellier manager says that PSG are amongst the favourites to qualify for continental football this season. No shit Sherlock.
Wilshere didn’t make the latest England squad. No worry Jack. Next time it’s a friendly I’ll pull Madison and Henderson from the squad. Then maybe you will make it? Or plan B, wait for Southgate to get fired then apply for the job.
Gomes keeps his place in the team, meaning that Neymar is on the bench for the 2nd league game in a row. We beat Amiens 2-0 away, with goals from Henderson and Mbappe. Wilshere picked up a booking before being subbed off . Still, no injury. That rejuvenating Parisian tap water is doing wonders for the boy!
International break. I give Wilshere a week off. I’m worried that if he trains his knees may fall off. Meanwhile, Maddison gets his first international goal.
More takeover rumours. I guess Wilshere is interesting possible investors.
The week’s rest did the trick! This is the first game he’s started where I haven’t been told that Wilshere “may struggle to see out the match”. My medical staff are certainly earning their wages.
Wilshere lasted the full match as an 87th minute James Tavernier penalty scraped us a 1-0 win at home to Nantes. That’s 10 in a row unbeaten in the league, with 28 points from a possible 30. Frank Lampard was spotted at the game. Apparently he is interested in signing Marquinhos. This could be a good way for me to sign Fikayo Tomori and/or Reece James. Watch this space…
Next up: RB Leipzig away.
Tavernier and Mbappe have developed a solid green link down the right side. This was unexpected. As was the result. RB Leipzig 4-6 PSG! A hat trick for Mbappe, 2 for Greenwood and 1 for Neymar. The defence was an absolute shambles this game. Luckily the attack bailed them out. I really need a couple of Englishmen to replace those 2 Brazilians in the centre of defence.
HOLY CRAP. Gareth Southgate was spotted at Red Bull Arena, casting an eye over basically half my team for the upcoming internationals. Jack Wilshere’s name is included among the players he was watching. GO JACK!
Next up we beat Lille 3-2 away. Take a quick 2-0 lead through Neymar and a Tavernier penalty. Switch off and it’s 2-2 at half time. Spend the entire second half throwing everything at them and finally in the 87th minute Tavernier pops up at the back post to tap in the winner. 2 goals for my right back. Not too shabby.
Side quest unlocked: Get James Tavernier his first England cap. This might be too difficult. Ahead of him he has Trent, Walker, Wan-Bissaka, Trippier & James. Heck, Tavernier never even got any youth caps for England. Still, if he keeps on playing as well as he does then even Gareth “I only pick players on form but actually fuck that let’s keep playing Pickford and Maguire even though they are having the worst seasons of their professional careers IRL” Southgate can’t ignore him forever.
Keylor Navas is injured. For absolutely no reason I set about signing 32 year old (and 1 time England U21 international) Ben Alnwick on a free.
PSG gain another sponsor. This is a 1 season deal worth £29m with a “European telecommunications company”. Totally not a FFP get around. Not at all.
I ask the board for more transfer funds. They say no. I whine like a little bitch. They give me £75m. Nice!
With the new funds available, Director of Football Les Reed recommends Sadio Mane as our top transfer target. Fuck that. I’m buying John Stones!
I have completely fucked up with a rookie mistake. With Navas injured, I forgot to stop Rico playing for the reserves. Now I’m about to play Brest (snigger) at home and both my keepers can’t play. With the Alnwick transfer yet to be completed, it looks like I’m going to have to rely on a 20 year old Pole called Marcin Bulka.
Relegation zone Brest manage to put 2 past him, but my attack get 3 to scrape a 3-2 win. Well, I say attack. Maddison, Sarabia and Tavenier (another penalty) get the goals. Mbappe and Wilshere (nooooooooo) pick up injuries in the game. Mbappe will miss 4-6 weeks with a twisted ankle, whilst Wilshere will miss just a few days with a bruised thigh. This does mean he will miss the RB Leipzig return fixture in midweek.
Ben Alnwick joins the club. I tell the press that he will be a massive boost to the entire squad. I quickly arrange a midweek friendly for the reserves so that he can get some game time before the weekend fixture in the league. I move every keeper (5?!) from the reserves into the first team to make sure that Terry Butcher has to play Alnwick. I’ll have to play Rico in the UCL, since I can’t register Ben… yet.
At home against Red Bull Leipzig we cruise to a 4-2 victory. A brace from Neymar, another open play goal for Tavernier, along with a goal for Greenwood wrap things up. I’m still concerned by my centre backs though. They need some English heart replace the Brazilian skill.
That win qualifies us from the group. So some players get bonuses paid. Including Alfonse Areola (snigger) who is on loan at Real Madrid. You still have to pay bonuses to players who aren't at the club?
DAMN YOU GARETH SOUTHGATE. He calls up Chilwell, Henderson and Maddison. Poor Jack and Jim. They feel so unloved.
Alnwick keeps a clean sheet for the reserves. That’s enough for me. 2 training sessions and 1 reserves game since the end of the previous season is enough to earn him a start at the weekend against 5th placed Nice.
GOD FUCKING DAMMIT. I forgot to put the reserve keepers back in the reserves squad, so Ben Alnwick played for the reserves today. Now he can’t play against Nice. I’ll have to play Johnny Rico (totally setting that as his nickname now) again. On the plus side at least Wilshere is back.
We absolutely smash Nice 3-0 away. An OG, another Tavernier penalty and a Verratti goal. Wilshere lasts the 90 and bags a MOTM award for his troubles.
I send Henderson, Chilwell and Maddison on holiday for a week just before they are supposed to join the England squad in the international break. Fuck you Southgate. Pick Wilshere you bastard. I also send Neymar, Marquinhos and Thiago Silva on holiday for a week, but that’s just for shits and giggles.
That’s the defence sorted! Once the January transfer window opens I’ve got John Stones, Rob Holding and Jordan Pickford all joining the club. That’s a Champions League winning line up if ever I saw one. Looks like Marquinhos, Navas and Thiago Silva will either have to leave or enjoy being benched.
Gaylord Kitenge is 12 months away from being homegrown. His parents are mean.
More takeover rumours. My owner quashes them. He is (not) quoted as saying that he is 100% behind his visionary manager and King Wilshere.
For no reason at all I am now training Ander Herrera as a left back. Double intensity.
Ah. The “send them on holiday” scheme didn’t work. They still played for their countries. Dang.
Neymar is hotly tipped to win Foreign Player of the year. He is up against the likes of blah blah blah and James Tavernier!
Next game is home against Dijon. Let’s see if Ben Alnwick can cut the mustard (snigger).
Another James Tavernier penalty as we beat Dijon 2-1. They managed 2 shots on target all game, and one of them went in. I am starting to think that Ben Alnwick is not the super human shot stopper that I bigged him up to be.
Oh, that was our 10th win in a row. That’s a new record for PSG.
I’ve sent half my first team on holiday for a week. They need a rest and since I’ve already qualified I’ll just play the likes of Verratti against Valencia. You know. Reserves.
Man U turned down my bid of a friendly in exchange for Phil Jones. I thought it was a more than fair offer.
Holy crap. We beat Valencia away 1-0, despite resting the entire outfield apart from Henderson. Both fullbacks were 17 year olds from the youth team. There’s only 1 explanation for it: Jordan Henderson is an amazing captain who led his troops to victory. It has nothing to do with the Valencia red card.
Ander Herrera has had a change of heart and no longer wants to leave. Tough titties mate. You’re a left back now. Train harder!
Nimes are brushed aside 2-0 away. Mbappe and Sarabia score. This takes us on to 12 wins in a row.
November ends. The board rate my performance as a B. What the fuck? I have literally won every single game and we are playing attacking football. Apparently they aren’t happy with Ben Alnwick’s signing. Fair point.
We are on course to pass the financial fair play regulations. Lol
Reims are demolished 6-0 at home. Another 2 goals for MOTM Tavernier (1 penalty, 1 from open play), Henderson, Sarabia & 2 for Mbappe. That’s 13 wins in a row.
Idrissa Gueye has handed in a transfer request. I think the fact that I forgot he even existed may be partly responsible for this. I accept the request.
James Tavernier is currently the joint second highest scorer in the league on 9 goals. DID YOU HEAR THAT SOUTHGATE? Call him up.
Monaco are smashed 3-0 away with an Icardi hat trick. On the down side Chilwell has reached his yellow cards limit whilst Neymar has sprained his ankle and is out for 3 weeks. When’s his sister’s birthday again?
Home game against Napoli to round off the UCL group stages. I’m going to rest everyone. Pre-match Gattuso tells the press how much he admires me. I tell the press that Gattuso is a wanker. I still remember him headbutting 100 year old Joe Jordan in the face.
My fans are confident ahead of the Napoli game. They haven’t seen the team yet… and I still win 2-0. MOTM Angel Gomes and Paplo Sarabia with the goals. This result was enough for Red Bull Leipzig to leapfrog Napoli and qualify 2nd in the group with 9 points and a goal difference of -2. They are one of 2 teams to qualify with a negative goal difference, the other being Dinamo Zagreb. I am one of 2 teams to qualify with 6 wins out of 6, the other two being Tottenham and Chelsea.
Bordeaux are swept aside next. 3-0 at home, with goals from Greenwood, Mbappe and Henderson. That’s 16 wins in a row in all competitions.
Ander Herrera has handed in a transfer request. I guess he doesn’t like being in the reserves and being trained as a left back. I accept the request.
I draw Ajax in the UCL first knock out round. That’s a very winnable tie for Wilshere & co. Meanwhile, Liverpool draw Real Madrid and Juventus draw Bayern Munich.
Next up is the Coupe de la Ligue BKT game vs Amiens at home. I will be fined £6.5k if I don’t pick 7 players in the squad who have played in at least 1 of my last 2 competitive games. Interesting idea, but a fine like that means nothing to me. I was going to rotate everyone to intentionally incur the fine. However, 2 games ago I played my reserves vs Napoli, so I’ve pretty much played everyone in the last 2 games anyway. We absolutely steamroll them 4-0, with goals from Kimpembe, Mbappe and MOTM Greenwood bagging 2. More importantly, Ben Alnwick kept a clean sheet. Also, Bellingham becomes the youngest ever Coupe de la Ligue BKT player.
Athletico Bilbao offer me £15m for Herrera, with me paying £83k of his wages every week. I tell them to stick that offer up their arse, and counter with a non-negotiable £15m and £100 per week of his wages being paid. They agree to this!
Rennes frustrate us with a 0-0 draw. Despite MOTM Wilshere picking out passes left and right, the finishing was poor. The run of 17 wins in a row is halted. Still, currently unbeaten this season.
The fans are reported to have hated Angel Gomes since he joined on loan. Bloody Anglophobes.
That’s it for Part 1. Just entered the winter break.
Next up: Part 2 - The Ballard of Rob Holding

DWT34 (January 16th 2021)

DWT34 (January 16th 2021)
Testing testing; check one two – DWT is live once again on Reddit!
Terrific, terrific stuff

Alas – promotion has remained minimal; a time away in the shadows I thought best after last weeks non-event. The missing match - Dundee Utd / st johnstone - was replayed there in midweek. A draw. So if it had been transferred - fuck all back anyhow. Not officially (which is summat I guess) - but for all intensive purposes; another whitewash. Ah no. Rest assured - I'll be making sure the asterisk is set in bold type explaining the break in flow as displayed by the progress checker spreadsheet. Regardless - the need for the fucking asterisk in the first place; unacceptable.
In between of course; a more ridiculous set of images you're very unlikely to see. Pricks aplenty making a right cunt of themselves on display by the fucking thousand. A big place the States of course - but the effort made by many to attend the event and be a proper off the chain crazy bastard, is indicative of a real issue evident. In terms of polar opposite mindsets, I've oft being fairly comfortable with accepting theres many whose opinion I cannot change. The aim mainly, to at least pry open the door of acknowledgment, make the cunt aware - and hope the journey life takes them on exposes them to more and more rational thought and has them adjust things from within (thus voluntarily spreading the good word of the more fundamental levels of common sense and decency to the other folks they do life together with). Impossible of course to keep track of the efforts made, given none of these pricks are ever seen or heard from again...hope more than anything.
Anyone or anything can have a key influence on something amazing happening of course; the best of things occur free of outside influence - beauty appearing purely based on random events clashing. Terrific of course - but often theres not time available, to be waiting on diamonds forming or whatever pish. The studying of behaviours makes discoveries; yadda yadda - 'look at what we've made by fusing these two things together'. The definitiveness of science, makes achieving new exciting stuff possible as fuck. The same ethos applied to human behaviour not quite as efficient alas; if anything the textbooks of study fattening by the month - 'oh sure - we sussed that in many occurences, these actions will suffice; but we also discovered a whole other mess of crap whilst we were doing pish related to the original problem. In essence - 5 times more work created (at a guess)'.
A seemingly infinite number of potentials therefore available to any human being; the potential for unexpected behaviour off the scale. This ball of debris has grown in size rapidly over the last 12+ months - reasons fairly obvious - but the chaos caused by a few quickly implemented laws to abide by, is a stark reminder of just how many mindsets there are out there these days. Sure it wasn't quite as simple as good v evil in times gone by - but these days, the heightening of splinter activity really seems to have gone into hyperspace. With tools to put your voice out there available for a few bangers, the oppurtunity to talk at the world, is oft too good to turn down (no exactly innocent of such behaviour myself tbf haha). Folk having outlandish opinion is nothing new of course - but with only the folk in range to spout the pish to, oft the voice got crushed quickly under the weight of apathy. Now - you can meet a cunt exactly like you from all over the place anywhere in the world (that has internet). Any activity where theres a few cunts involved, plans made - actual intent to inflict/perform/abuse....thats the properly scary stuff. One serial killer - terrible. Two serial killers working together...how, why and where did this relationship blossom? The conversation between the two turns sinister...who commits first to admitting they're a fucking mad cunt? Confusing that folk think they can just lay that shite out there and be filled with expectancy they're on their way to a fun filled life of horrendous activity. Whats happening in the world where they feel comfy enough just casually discussing jailworthy activity? Ach I don't know - the human mind. Loads of work to do yet - hoo mama.

Every week of late the mantra here has been detailing an emphasis on no nonsense - well I do believe that this weeks effort is the actual proper qualifier for this monicker. A solid combo combining the very fibre of elements that make up the DWT formula; at the very least a double seems solid. Not that I'm making do - I don't want to get into settling of course; more of an effort here to draw attention to the solidity of things. I'm of no doubt we're getting all of them trotting over the line and finally - FINALLY - denting that negative that has weighed the ship down for so so long. A smidge away from tipping over £300 - scary stuff. The sweat produced from the worry is harvested however and turned into fuel; from the energy we prosper 😎. So to wrap up - no longer at play, we gather all to say - we do things different today, lets go make some fucking hay. Reddit Running Total (RRT) currently sits at -£298.57. Ah no.

I’m not promoting it in the slightest to be put on; it's purely to be completely transparent about where the beans I'm spilling are being pushed towards – this is after all, a Life Experiment: Can a useless old arsehole prosper under strict weekly gambling conditions? Word of warning; prior to this – not really.
The sticky clarifies - but just to reiterate - here's the format...DRS20 is Dads Recommended Spend: £20. This is a lot of money granted - and I would encourage absolute apprehension if this sort of money represents life altering for you personally if zero is returned. I’m lucky enough to be able to afford to lose £20 in a week; but confess that if I got no return for say, 20 weeks in a row - I would likely be without something I value (a streaming service or summat). I don’t take it lightly. Four bets are placed with this outlay; a £5 Treble (DWT) and three £5 Doubles. Generally if two come up, the bet is covered (up or down £2 or so). My gambling prowess is pretty much a joke; so whilst I advertise, I in no way qualify them as a given. I’m a prick with plenty bollocks to spout is all. This is how I frame it.

So here it is - the one that recognises the added tension caused by last weeks non-adventure and vows to delivery action, joy and elation in equal measure:

Its DWT34

https://i.redd.it/gzyv2xxkanb61.gif

DWT REPRESENTATIVE Opponent Odds
NOTTINGHAM FOREST millwall 11/8
PETERBOROUGH UNITED milton keynes dons 5/4
SCUNTHORPE UNITED barrow 23/10

16.63/1 we get for this selection – terrific.

Over 17's last week; over 16's this week - the lands of teen now residence of the DWT for now 2 weeks running (albeit last weeks was scrubbed from the record books owing to postponement. Ah no). Fairly apparent this one is, in the hunt up there at the front of the race and no mistake. Really could do with summat right out of the traps tbh; last weeks damp squib really deflated the figurative dinghy...chuck in the Dons being postponed not once but fucking twice - football was the source of much disdain over the last week. Still - over the rut we are; the delay soon forgotten when this cheeky number strolls home 😎

NOTTINGHAM FOREST now 6 games undefeated; the ship well and truly steadied. Home they are again; which will hopefully add emphasis to the need to bang in a few more goals, having thrust home just 1 or less in the last 5. But here - now we've a semblence of confidence; its time for flair and invention to take precedent. Its only millwall - fuck em.
PETERBOROUGH UNITED at a price that had me do a bitty more delving that perhaps necessary...but nowt tells me they'll foresee any more problems than most other weeks. Any doubt in their energy was soon chucked out the window after they laid Portsmouth to the sword midweek (5-1 for the love of fuck). victory keeps them on the edge of the auto-places; 12 goals scored in their last three home games suggests in the baggedness aplenty.
SCUNTHORPE UNITED Okay - a pretty obvious keystone this week are Scunthorpe; but hear me out - away to fellow strugglers barrow they are - very winnable. Beat them last time out in a tight affair; but they have that edge at least. Away form patchy; a defeat last time out - but after going 2-1 down in the first ten minutes, ran the game until a 93rd minute sealer. Before that a couple of 1-0's; they're at the races most the time. a wee rub of greenery and hey presto I reckon. Nowt like the presence of near foes to motivate.

So there we have it – nostalgia, hope and determination all apparent in equal measure. This time we do it right; wind in the sails – and off across the ocean in search of new worlds. A powerful pirate ship hunting high and low for treasures. Raise the fucking flag - the good ship DWT is back and ready to provide for its crew. If you play; play safe. DRS20 as always people.
Frustration at the amount won, is better than the heartache at the amount lost.

DWT35 (January 23nd 2021)

DWT35 (January 23nd 2021)
Testing testing; check one two – DWT is live once again on Reddit!
Terrific, terrific stuff

Alas – promotion has remained minimal; but we've now in our possession, a wee snifter of a chance to properly leap aboard the success train. Admittedly this snifter is based on nowt more than the run of horror being ended - but additional to that; there was a strange couple of incidents surrounding the number 69 (see Twitter for details). Admittedly - notable only really for the fact 69 was involved (easy minded). But thats the noteworthiness there in itself - I'd have surely noticed a chance 69 occurrence or two if it'd been apparent previously.
69 - what does it mean? Theres the linkage to coitous of course; but away from that - there's the less coarse noteworthiness of ying and yang: pushed together, the numbers interlock as if, finally - they have found the positions required to fuse and be as one. DWT and Victory - which is 6 and which is 9 - it matters little. the fusion removes the barriers of former association. Here - I'm no a filofax of all things repeated link occurrences; but 2 within a week - thats summat. Summat to pay heed to and to take confidence from. Dismissing rewards and becoming accustomed to skeptitude, is a road tarred with regret and frustration: 'I should have...' 'If only I'd...' Impractical of course to grasp hold confidently to any and all random encounters and possibles - but well worth doing a smidge of research on whatever slips itself into your field of vision (aside from the nigerian prince type obvious pish).
My journey towards the inevitable destination of spirituality, has been one filled with tests - harsh lessons learnt and no fucking mistake. Akin to any challenge - the problems lie within your own doubt and lack of belief. Laid bear - the achievements successfully processed, by the best of the best at each and every thing there is to be the best at - are all unforeseen and random. Noone knows precisely when and where a new best will be set, even by the achiever themselves. The combination of good surrounding them at that time equated to elation...it can't be rushed, it can't be forced - it's a force that guides you. I've lost count of the number of times my bottle has been dropped and smashed on the floor; a wee game of pool - out to a giant lead; me on the black, the other cunt on all his yellows still...yadda yadda - defeated. Dinnae get me wrong - I'm no an exclusive to failure type cunt; theres been many many smooth and silky victories over the years - pizazz a fucking plenty. But raw in my mind, are manys an occasion where I'm in the ascendency - in particular in the sense of a knife edge being balanced upon....Pot this one ball - this straight shot into the corner....no other balls in the way - just tap it in. Just tap it in now. Just tap-tap-tap a roo....missed. The back straightens sharply, eyes burning a hole in the black ball, as it trickles slowly away from the intended target.
Its been a while since I've had my hands wrapped around a pool cue; the memories still hurt. Sports are all competitive and difficult to make inroads into at the best of times. At my age, if there's no indication of any kind of raw talent - move on to the next one. Did the usual merry-go-round through the usual ones; once they were exhausted then onto the less so ones. Nowadays - none. An acceptance my set of tools are alas not of the calibre required to make any sort of worthwhile progress. Those who can't do teach of course; and whilst placing wagers is perhaps another topic potentially set to be tossed on the 'tried and failed' pile - its one where I've finally achieved peace of mind. Acceptance I will never be the best specifically at harvesting huge lumps of cash - but also recognising that in itself, the path woven is worthy of highlighting (given the content is of a magnetic enough calibre). Free of the shackles of expectancy - expression and artistic license can be turned to for inspiration, offering others the opportunity to lay eyes on something other than the what have you. Whether it takes precedence over the what have you is the thing. Then once thats got some traction - beginning the quest towards when DWT eventually itself becoming the what have you; familiar hellos and nods - part of the landscape. This happening I'm hoping will result in the draining of stress and mental anguish I carry around with me; fingers crossed 🤞

The feelings on this weeks effort are much akin to last week; its all on the keystone. She fell out last week alas - but this week we have home advantage in our Keystone affair; suddenly things get a good smidge more attractive. The good news accompanying this, is the odds are a lot more generous than they were for last weeks Keystone; and as such we've got something here that I like to refer to as, 'The Perfect Storm'. We may be going up and down and side to side quite violently - but one things for sure; we'll have a terrific prosperous time 😎. So to wrap up - now we've broken the curse, put the rot in reverse - we slip a hand into the purse, there's a plan to rehearse. Reddit Running Total (RRT) currently sits at -£303.43.

So here it is - the one that is now ready to accept its fate and be propelled into hyperspace by our new friend, 69:

Its DWT35

DWT REPRESENTATIVE Opponent Odds
QUEENS PARK RANGERS derby county 8/5
PETERBOROUGH UNITED ipswich town 13/10
WIGAN ATHLETIC fleetwood town 29/10

22.32/1 we get for this selection – terrific.

Over 16's last week; over 22's this week - there's now maybes no so much of an expectant glance these days; the consistency of price is not one to hang the hat off of. But generally I find after a wee bitty of success, I generally react in a glisteny-eye type way and push the boat out. This week no different then - the scales tipping over the 20 mark; a land I enjoy if I'm honest. The journey one much more befitting of the vessel The Good Ship is - eager for confrontation jousting and challenging obstacles. Final checks all round - but we've a trio of heroes here afore you today; mark my fucking words people 😎

QUEENS PARK RANGERS caught my eye there a wee whiley ago after hearing the news Charlie Austin had re-signed; a terrific wee cunt he is. First game back - and a goal in a 2-0 winning effort over Luton away. Back to Loftus Road for the first home outing this week; Pugfaces derby in town to provide the challenge. In good spirits they'll be after getting the first win of the Pugface regime there in midweek - that the second of two they've played whilst QPR have been resting and waiting for today. Hat-trick for the man of the moment, wouldnae be a surprise if you ask me.
PETERBOROUGH UNITED caused plenty joy last week; and at a price that claws at my cuff saying 'pickme-pickme-pickme' - shall do Peterborough son 😎. Perhaps a tougher ask than last - away from home to ipswich, who find themselves 4 points back from the visitors. But a home record that shows 4 defeats ib the last 5, plus a scoreline that read 1-4 to Peterborough last time - dinnae fret. In the fucking satchel 👍
WIGAN ATHLETIC are our Keystone this week - 29/10 for a home affair against fleetwood. I've been watching the form of fleetwood since Joey B left; and no wins since. 6 free of a victory; 3 defeats in a row - the sting of change not yet repaired. Sure its got to end sometime; but in Wigan we have a mob who are battering in goals aplenty at the moment - 7 goals for in their last 2, both away from home. they score early, they could be in for a properly terrific hammering. Lets see what happens.

[Game Preview] Week 10 - Philadelphia Eagles(3-4-1) @ New York Giants (2-5)

Philadelphia Eagles (3-4-1) vs New York Giants (2-7)
I don’t know what to say about the NFC East Matchups. The entire division is struggling with major injuries to key players and the division is by far the worst in the NFL, but the divisional games have all been competitive with the last matchup between these two being decided by a single point. The Eagles will show up to this matchup a little bit healthier especially in weapons for Carson who will have Miles Sanders, Dallas Goedert, Alshon Jeffrey and Jalen Raegor for this matchup, all of whom were out last game. Carson was able to throw for 300+ yards last game, he should be able to build on that number with an added number of weapons. The Giants were able to put up points last week vs the Football Team and pull out their second W of the season. The Eagles will need to pressure Jones and force him into turning the ball over like the first matchup and the Eagles need to be able to take advantage of those turnovers. Carson said he reviewed his turnovers in the first half of the season and said he knows he needs to protect the ball better, he needs to prove it this week coming off the bye. If Carson protects the football, the Eagles should be able to move the ball against the bewildered Giants and cruise to an easy win, but if he continues to turn the ball over like the first half, I predict another sloppy NFCE matchup that goes down to the wire. Go Birds!

Eagles 22 - Giants 21
The Eagles faced off against the division rival Giants who were coming off their first win of the season and were looking for a 2nd for first year coach Joe Judge. The Eagles have moved to 2-4-1 on the season after rallying to defeat the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football, 22-21. After New York gave its best punch of the night a 97-yard touchdown drive headlined by Daniel Jones to go up 21-10 with just over six minutes to play, Philadelphia scored 12 unanswered points to earn the win. Carson Wentz led a 71-yard touchdown drive to give the Eagles the lead with just 40 seconds to play after connecting with running back Boston Scott on an 18-yard reception. Along with the comeback, he finished his night with 359 yards passing, two touchdowns and one interception while completing passes to eight different Eagles receivers. He also ran for 15 yards and a touchdown. As for the Giants, they mustered just 325 yards of offense and struggle to protect Daniel Jones throughout the contest.

Eagles 34 - Giants 17
Wentz led to his fourth straight must-win game and the team finished an elimination game without seven starters on offense. Already missing three starting wide receivers for the fourth straight game, the Eagles also began the game without Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz and right tackle Lane Johnson. Then they lost running back Miles Sanders and three-time Pro Bowl right guard Brandon Brooks in the first half. But Scott, Josh Perkins, Greg Ward, Deontay Burnett and Robert Davis combined for 16 catches on 25 targets, 225 yards receiving, 54 yards rushing and four TDs. The five players were cut a combined eight times by four teams since Aug. 31. Carson Wentz threw for 289 yards, including a 24-yard TD pass to Perkins, who was promoted from the practice squad on Nov. 30. It was the Eagles’ 7th straight win vs the Giants and clinched the NFCE. Giants coach Pat Shurmur was fired the following Monday.

Recap from Last Week’s Games.
Eagles - Eagles were on bye Week 9.
Giants - For the second time in four weeks, New York beat Washington on Sunday, holding on for a 23-20 victory at FedEx Field. It was another close win for the Giants over their NFC East rival, after earning a 20-19 victory in the first meeting between the two teams in Week 6. New York built a 17-point lead by halftime, and although Washington made things interesting in the second half, it wasn't enough to come back against the Giants, who relied on early success from their offense and big plays from their defense.

Stats to Know
Shane Lemieux’s Education
Rookie OG Shane Lemieux has facial hair. Fletcher Cox has a mustache. And that’s about as much as RG Shane Lemieux will be able to mirror DT Fletcher Cox. Due to Will Hernandez’s injury, Monsieur Lemieux is in at Guard and this week will prove challenging for him, to say the least. According to PFF, the greatest NFL player evaluation service in the history of evaluation services, not a single other OLman with appreciable snaps has offered a lower Pass Block grade than him, at 12.1. For him to achieve that, while still only allowing 8 pressures (over 2 weeks: 5 & 3 pressures), is impressive. To do that you have to be monumentally bad and he can’t afford that sort of game against the Eagles’ Defensive Line.
Matchups to Watch
Carson Wentz vs. Competency
The biggest issue facing the Eagles in the short term isn't the injuries - it is the QB. That's my QB, a guy I've long defended and still believe in, but BAE has me wavering. The simple fact is Carson Wentz is a bottom 3 QB in the NFL this year and that's his fault. From accuracy, to turnovers, to shit pocket management, etc, Wentz has been trailer trash in 2020 aside from like 2, maybe 3 games. Yes, the roster has been decimated. Yes, coaching has been wildly unimpressive. However, Wentz can't take care of business irrespective of the situation around him. Backup receivers don't cause inaccurate passes. Backup offensive linemen don't make him hold onto the ball too long to where he gets hit and fumbles. No one is making him skip back and forth over the line of self-destruction and aggression. Wentz is doing that on his own. He obviously isn't taking his own advice when he says he has to take care of the ball and whatever coaching points are given to him during the week are going in one ear and out of the other. He's a 5th year pro playing worse than his rookie year. That's on him. There needs to be a come to Jesus moment with Wentz where he gets right. The Eagles can be competitive in every game they play when the QB is playing at a competent - forget high - level. Carson Wentz has shown all of us this year that his ceiling is still quite high at its peaks: the first game against the Giants on their last two drives. He's also shown his league-worst floor: SNF against Dallas. Long term and short term, Wentz must raise his floor. He doesn't need to be a hero and save the team from their sins each and every play like he seemingly tries to. FEW QBs CAN. And most don't. Steady play from him will go a long way. Right now, the coaches are calling an offensive game plan that is weak and scared of their QB. Why would they do anything different? How can anyone trust this guy not to continue to blow games? The fact is the Eagles will win this game with a clean game from their QB. It's just a crapshoot if he does.
Eagles Offensive Line vs. Giants Army of Defensive Tackles
The Giants have a really good group of interior defensive lineman and we would know since they kicked our ass in the first matchup this season. The Eagles were absent Isaac Seumalo and Brandon Brooks in that one and it showed. There is a possibility we'll have Seumalo back for this one and that would be a huge addition to an overmatched offensive line. I don't want to belittle the work of the Eagles backups and Jeff Stoutland especially since they've done an admiral job given all of the injuries; it's just undeniable the Eagles are overmatched in the trenches here, especially on the interior. Every healthy body helps. As we've seen with Wentz this year, he is a mess under pressure and navigating a muddy pocket. He'll still likely have these issues on Sunday but hopefully less so than the first matchup. The return of Seumalo and possibly Lane Johnson will also go a long way to helping the run game provide any sort of production for the offense. The Eagles prefer winning with their OL and DL; this year has been a struggle for the OL but not a complete disaster that we expected. We just need the talent to return in order to improve.
Eagles Weapons vs Giants Secondary
Perhaps I was more bearish on the Giants secondary outside of Bradberry in the first match up; I still don't think it is a very good unit, but the defensive side of the ball for the Giants is far from the biggest issue with this team. The Eagles will have Miles Sanders, Jalen Reagor, and Dallas Goedert for this game when all three were unavailable in the first contest. All three pair well with Giant-killer Boston Scott. The Eagles have enough weapons to really attack the Giants defense if they get quality play out of their QB. This Giants defense still struggles in coverage outside of Bradberry, especially in the middle of the field, which leads to a favorable outlook for Goedert. A functioning offense will take a lot of pressure off the defense and put the Eagles in the rare position of having a favorable game script.
Eagles Defensive Line vs Giants Offensive Line
This is always something to monitor for the Eagles as they only have one good cover guy on defense in Darius Slay. The Eagles struggle to match up against defenses in man coverage because they don't have the personnel to cover anyone other than Darius Slay. They struggle in zone as they don't have smart, instinctive players with awareness in zone. The LBs and Safeties are all bad in coverage. Competent offenses and QBs always expose this weakness for the Eagles and that won't change until the talent and coaching changes on the defense. This week the Eagles have another favorable matchup for their defense in Daniel Jones. Jones is a one read, timing QB, that struggles at the one thing he is supposed to be good at. Like Wentz, he is a turnover machine and holds his offense back mightily. The only difference between the two is Jones was at no point considered a top 10 QB. Even without Barkley and possibly Golden Tate, the Giants have more than enough weapons to cook the Eagles defense. Slay played a really good game in their first matchup locking down Slayton, but we saw Sterling Shepard obliterate Jalen Mills. Shepard is a good receiver, so it wasn't a high bar for him to clear in that matchup, but they can make you pay. The Eagles defensive MVP in that contest was Evan Engram; he had a tipped pass that led to an Eagles INT and a killer drop that likely would have ended the game, preventing the comeback. For all of the Giants struggles, the Eagles coverage unit simply doesn't offer enough resistance against the Giants weapons. It comes down to how much disruption the Eagles defensive line can cause, which is par for the course. The Giants offensive line has been an absolute mess this season but is coming off a great game against the Redskins vaunted defensive front. Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox continue to play at high levels. Josh Sweat has been pretty good this year. Derek Barnett is the same as usual. Lastly, Malik Jackson will return to the line up and he has been an under-the-radar stud for the Eagles this year. They also need to have their marquee free agent acquisition, Javon Hargrave, make an impact. They'll need all of these guys to play well to ensure they keep the Giants weapons in line since we know the Eagles secondary struggles stopping nosebleeds.

Title: I am 33 years old and make $121,000 with an approximate 20% bonus and annual stock awards, live in Pittsburgh, PA and work as a Landman in the Oil and Gas Industry (I’m a licensed attorney) This was my Money Diary from two years ago - https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/money-diary-pittsburgh-pa-in-house-landman-income
Section One: Assets and Debt
Retirement Balance: $152,000 in my company 401K – prior to paying off my student loans in November of 2019, I was contributing up to my company’s 6% match. Now, I am contributing 15% which comes out to about $700/pay period plus employer match.
I have about $10,500 in a personal investment account that I contribute $500/month that I opened earlier this year
Equity: I sold my townhouse in 2017 and moved into an affordable apartment in order to aggressively pay down my student loan debt. I moved in my boyfriend, in his paid-off home, in March.
Savings Account Balance: In my HYSA, I have a $20,000 emergency fund and $10,000 in a short-term savings account with the goal of home improvements and/or down payment for a home
Checking Account Balance: I have $4,000 in my checking account
Credit card debt: No credit card debt – I pay my balance off every month
Car Loan: I bought a new SUV this summer that was around $38,000. The loan is currently at $3,500 between a $10,000 down payment, trade in of my old vehicle, a couple $1500 monthly payments and I recently cashed out $10,000 in stock to put towards the principal. I plan to have this paid off within the next few months.
Student Loan Debt: $0 – I graduated from law school with $85,000 in student loan debt. After three years, I had made $30,000 in payments and less than half had gone to the principal. At that point, I sold my townhouse and moved into an affordable apartment and got serious about paying it off. I was able to pay off that $70,000 in a little under two years.
Anything else that's applicable to you: I receive compensation in deferred stock awards that have a three-year vesting cycle. I currently have about $3,000 in vested stock and $100,000 in unvested. The unvested is monopoly money because: (1) If I leave my job, I would lose it; and (2) The stock is volatile, and its value at vesting is unknown. I don’t have a specific plan for that money but would potentially use it towards a down payment on a future home or renovations in our current home.
I live with my boyfriend, Will, who paid off his mortgage in eleven years shortly before I moved in. We make about the same income. He pays for property taxes, insurance, and utilities. I pay for cable, internet, meal kit deliveries, Amazon Prime and Netflix. We have an active interest in each other’s investments and are on the same page about our outlooks surrounding money.
Section Two: Income
Income Progression: I've been working in my field for 6 years; my starting salary was $85,000 with 20% bonus. This was my first job out of law school. I have had two promotions since I started but my salary increases weren’t necessarily in line with the promotions. My biggest raise was in a year that I did not receive a promotion.
Main Job Monthly Take Home:
$5,762.55
Section Three: Expenses
Rent / Mortgage / HOA fees: N/A – Will owns the house outright and he pays for all property taxes
Renters / home insurance: same
Retirement contribution: see above – approximately $700/pay period, which, with an additional portion taken out of my bonus, maxes out my 401k for the year
Savings contribution: $1000 to HYSA (was $2500 but now diverting $1500 to car payment)
Investment contribution: $500 to mutual fund
Debt payments: $1500/month to aforementioned car payment
Donations: $50/month to a local homeless shelter that really helped by Dad when he was struggling with addiction. My boyfriend and I also volunteer at Meals-on-Wheels once a week. We used to go together every week when they needed us during the beginning of quarantine, but now that things have slowed down, just one of us goes every week. We also make ten bagged lunches for the homeless through a local church twice a month and I pay for those supplies which I would estimate to be between $50 and $100 a month.
Electric: Partner
WIFI/Cable/Landline: $177
Cellphone: Paid through work
Subscriptions: $65/week for Hello Fresh or Marley Spoon food delivery (3 meals a week); $13.90 for Netflix; $10.69 for Apple Music; $13.77 for Amazon Prime; $11.96 for digital local newspaper subscription; $14.99 Peloton
Gym membership: $10/month Planet Fitness + $22/month pretax for gym near my office. I’m not currently going to the gym, but both are so low I don’t want to cancel. I especially want to support the family-owned gym by my office.
Car payment / insurance: The minimum payment on my car loan is about $400, but I pay $1500. Car insurance is $370/every six months
Was there an expectation for you to attend higher education? Did you participate in any form of higher education? If yes, how did you pay for it?
I was always a very good student and there was an expectation I would attend college. Finances were never discussed when I was looking at colleges and although my family is not extremely wealthy, they had a “follow your dreams” approach to schooling. I attended a state school as an out-of-state student and my grandparents paid for the majority of the tuition – I believe it was around $30,000 a year. My parents paid for basic room and board expenses and I worked throughout college and in the summers for spending money. I attended law school and my grandparents provided approximately $20,000 a year. I graduated with $85,000 in student loans. After three years, I had paid over $30,000 in payments, but less than half of that went to the principal and I decided to really change my view on budgets and spending and get it paid off as soon as possible. I was able to pay the remaining $70,000 off in less than two years. I am incredibly grateful for the money I received from my family, especially my grandparents, and realize how lucky I am. My grandfather was a high school principal and lived very modestly his entire life to be able to save. I hope I am making him proud!
Growing up, what kind of conversations did you have about money? Did your parent/guardian(s) educate you about finances?
I don’t believe my parents ever discussed money with me in a cogent manner. My grandparents are all very frugal and big savers, but they did not impart that knowledge on my parents. Both are extreme spenders, with my dad in particular having IRS liens and at one-point filing for bankruptcy. I’d like to think I learned from their mistakes, but I also recognize that comes from the privilege of making a comfortable living. When I first started making money, I just assumed you were supposed to spend all of it and that’s pretty much what I did until 2017. I credit Money Diaries and this sub for teaching me so much about financial literacy. You guys are the best.
What was your first job and why did you get it? I
I worked at my local pool as an attendant when I was 14 and started lifeguarding at 16. I liked having my own money and as I’ll discuss further below, I didn’t like asking my mom for money.
Did you worry about money growing up?
Constantly. My parents divorced when I was 8 and my father lost his job a few years later. My mom went from having dependable child support to nothing and her job wasn’t lucrative at the time. She was constantly stressed about money and really put a lot of that pressure on me as the oldest child. I remember just being yelled at for everything I would ask for – whether it was cheerleading shoes or lunch money. This was also during times when we were going on vacations and living in a nice home. We weren’t poor but my mom never saved or accounted for any unexpected expenses. This has really shaped my mindset about saving and not wanting to live my life stressed about money.
Do you worry about money now?
Short answer is no and I think there’s three parts to that: (1) I have been lucky to find a job that pays me well, (2) I set myself up for success by saving and paying off debt; and (3) to live with my boyfriend whose good financial decisions have taken a lot of stress off of our shoulders. On the other side, I also work in a pretty unpredictable industry, so I am cognizant that this job may not last forever and I may need to figure out another career path. But I bet on me and know that I would be an asset to many companies and industries.
At what age did you become financially responsible for yourself and do you have a financial safety net?
I would say that when I graduated from law school and moved into my own home. My family is very close, and I know that I could move in with my siblings, dad or grandparents if I needed to. I would also consider my boyfriend part of my safety net.
November 5, 2020
7:10 – My boyfriend, Will, wakes me up with some cuddling. I have been having some weird insomnia so sleeping in this late feels awesome! This morning we are volunteering at Meals-on-Wheels, so I get up, make half of a bagel thin with whipped cream cheese and “Everything But the Bagel” seasoning and grab a water bottle and a Diet Dr. Pepper to have in the car.
10:30 – We head home from Meals-on-Wheels. It was another fun morning – we really enjoy going, especially the weeks we both go. Our team of 6 volunteers makes bagged lunches and then a hot meal for 64 folks. Today, the bagged lunch had a milk, applesauce, roast beef and cheese sandwich, chips, apple, cookies, bread and butter, and a piece of pound cake. The hot meal was stuffed peppers with mashed potatoes and green beans. When we get home, I make Will a bagel thin as a pre-lunch snack and package up an apple and leftover chicken pot pie for his lunch while he catches up on emails. We made the chicken pot pie this weekend from the Salt Fat Acid Heat cookbook and it was so good and has been heating up really well. After he leaves for work, I go into my home office in the dining room and catch up on emails/phone calls before heating up a cabbage roll with ground turkey and mashed potatoes that my best friend made this weekend and gave me some leftovers. 10/10 would recommend.
12:45 – I work for the rest of the morning and then go to the NJ EZPass website because when I went to NJ in September, the EZPass I was using was no longer active and I got hit with two separate $50 fees. BOOOOOO. I’m able to get one waived, but I still have to pay $56.15. I also decide I’m a grown up and should get my own EZPass account so I sign me and Will up for one ($76, which includes two devices and $35/each in prepaid funds). I also buy a toaster because we only have a toaster oven and I burn 65% of the things I put in there. ($24.61)
1:00 – I get back to work for the afternoon. I correspond with opposing counsel, draft and revise some leasing agreements, and review leases that were taken by my field guys. The afternoon goes by quickly. I have the rest of my DDP, another large bottle of water, and a spoonful of Jeni’s Brambleberry Crisp ice cream which is the best ice cream I’ve ever had. Around three I have an apple and help my coworker put together a proposal for her promotion. She definitely deserves it!!!!!
4:30 – I finish up my workday and head upstairs for a 30-minute Beyoncé Peloton ride. It is so so fun! I take my daily bath after while watching TikToks. Afterwards, I get dressed, make our bed, and put away some laundry.
6:00 – Will gets home from work and we start on tonight’s Blue Apron – chicken caper pasta. It’s tasty but not my favorite. We watched “Eaters Guide to the World” while we ate – narrated by Maya Rudolph. It seems like a great show, and Maya’s voice is awesome. Will cleans up the kitchen while I type this out and relax.
7:00 – We listen in to a webinar for my friend’s travel agent business. It feels really pyramid schemey to me. I love that she has a side hustle, but don’t love this. Afterwards we watch The Last Man on Earth (“LME”) before going to bed around 9.
Day Two
4:00 – Welp, I’m up. Any advice on how to stay asleep? Maybe seven hours is enough sleep? It doesn’t feel like it to me. I listen to podcasts (Do No Harm and the new Dr. Death) until I get up at seven and start my work day. Will left around 5:30 after taking the trash and recycling out for the week. I have half a bagel thin and an apple for breakfast.
9:30 – I’m heading into the office soon, so I’ve been taking care of housekeeping things and making a list to ensure I do everything I need to in the office today. I’ve been going in about twice a week for two or so hours. My company is still pretty old fashioned in the sense that we use paper pay sheets and have to physically sign off on things. I don’t mind – it’s nice to get out of the house.
10:30 – I get into the office, handle some logistics, catch up with my friends and yell at my boss for not wearing a mask. He’s infuriating. After a few hours, I leave and pick up Mexican food and take it to my dad and grandma’s house for lunch ($45). My gram and I get the shrimp tacos and chips and guac and my dad gets a giant portion of beef enchiladas. After a quick lunch, I head home, stopping to pick up wine on my way ($41).
1:30 – I’m back in the home office and working the rest of the afternoon. I deal with some lease negotiations that are part of a mediation and end of year budget issues. I finish up around 4:30 and chat with my best friend on her drive home from work and then get on a quick call with my boss to discuss the mediation.
5:45 – Will is home and he snacks while we make baked chicken with pesto and mozzarella. We have it with a bag of sautéed spinach and I have leftover sweet potatoes and he has last night’s pasta. I am TIRED from waking up so early!!! We just watch LME and head to bed around nine.
Day Three
6:15 – I’m just waking up now! Yes! Will gives me a big hug before he leaves for the day. Today is technically my Friday off (we do 9/80s, so I have every other Friday off). With working from home, I haven’t really taken the Fridays off, and I have two meetings on my schedule today.
8:15 – Head down to my office, heat up some pot pie (it has veggies so does that make it okay to eat for breakfast?), and catch up on emails. I have a short call at 9 with an attorney representing landowners whose leasing agreement I would like to modify. I’m also going back and forth with our outside counsel regarding current litigation. Fridays are normally my busiest day because I really like to get to as close to inbox zero as possible to have a “fresh start” on Monday.
10:00 – I call a new-to-me hair salon to schedule an appointment and they say they can take me either after Thanksgiving or today at 10:45, so I put some makeup on and head out. The girl who does my hair looks just like Jenny Slate and it was really nice getting to know her! I get a cut and highlights and I love it! ($172 + $40 tip + $3 for parking). Also, the Hello Fresh charge for the week goes through ($77.91). It is a little higher than normal because I ordered some sandwiches for lunch to try out.
1:30 – Rush home for a conference call which goes great! For a late lunch, I heat up a piece of chicken from last night and have it with some leftover spinach and chips and guac.
2:30 – I watch the first episode of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Omg this season seems like it is going to be amazing. Afterwards, I head to my best friend slash neighbor’s house and we go for a 2.5 mile walk and then sit outside on her deck and catch up. It’s sad to think this may be the last time we are able to do this with the weather getting colder.
5:30 - I order Aladdin’s takeout and Will picks it up on the way home. We get a shish kebob rolled, chicken Dijon rolled, spicy cauliflower, V9 soup and hot sauce. ($35+ tip, Will pays). When he gets home, we take the leaves to the curb and buy his sister a baby shower gift ($280 for a car seat, Will pays). We watch more LME and go to bed around nine.
Day Four
7:00 – I wake up and Will has already left to take his Nana shopping. I putz around and run the dishwasher and wash the bedding. He comes home at nine and we go shopping at Whole Foods. He gets stuff to make borscht for his mom and aunt, sandwiches provisions for lunches this week, salad, and frozen food. Total is around $90, and Will pays.
11:00 – We get home and make a frozen pizza and salad for lunch and watch more LME. Around one, I do a Peloton bootcamp (Jess Sims is my best friend) and Will mows the yard for leaves. I take a bath and relax while Will preps the soup.
4:00 – We have some leftover pizza and watch the last episode of Seduced, the NXIVM documentary. Keith Raniere is such a horrible human being. At some point I buy some more silicone ice cube trays ($9.32) and I make us sandwiches with the leftover chicken/pesto/mozzarella from the other night. We head to bed early.
Day Five
7:00 – I wake up in a great mood and ready to do all the things. I drink a green juice because I’ve been eating like a literal trash panda. I load the dishwasher, clean the countertops and stove, vacuum the kitchen, and make the bed. I fold and put away a load of laundry. I do a thirty-minute Cody Rigsby intervals and upper body workout and then a 15-minute stretch video.
11:00 - I take a shower and get ready to the day I’ve been looking forward to all month – brunch at Eleven! It is a gift from my sister and brother in law for my birthday and my brother joins as well. We start with a basket of croissants, muffins, and scones with honey butter and raspberry jam – literally a meal itself. Then I get the beignets and fried chicken with Brussel sprouts Caesar salad and corn bread. I also have a ginger mule and most of Will’s cocktail. Total was around $200 plus tip for the five of us and my brother-in-law pays.
3:00 – We head back to my sister and brother-in-law’s house and watch the end of the 1:00 football games and then the Steeler game. We have some cocktails throughout the day and before we leave, they make some frozen chicken nuggets from Costco that taste just like Chic-Fila. They also bought the Taste Test of Caramels from Trader Joes – I highly recommend. Will and my sister both got 100% accuracy and I couldn’t be prouder. It was such a fun day! They recently moved back to Pittsburgh from out of state and I’m so grateful that they are close, and we can hang out regularly.
7:30 – We get home and try to watch one episode of LME and fall asleep immediately after getting into bed.
Day Six
5:45 – I wake up and lay in bed for an hour or so catching up on my phone. I head downstairs and go through my work and personal emails and finances. My 401K has increased $12,000 since I started writing this. It doesn’t make sense to me. I also see that I got $50 cash back from Buy Buy Baby, so I get a few more things from Will’s sister’s registry ($5.50 after the coupon)
9:00 – I head into the office to pick up printing (I have a small printer at home, but anything more than a couple pages, I print to the office) and get some checks requested. I grab a cup of coffee and a Pepsi for Will. Once I’m back at home, I heat up the rest of the vegetable soup from Friday and a couple pierogis that Will’s mom made. I negotiate with a landowner for an amendment and ratification, fix a couple revenue issues, pull an order from a 2018 lawsuit and ensure that we are abiding by its terms, and put a memo together for the general counsel.
1:00 – I work solidly throughout the afternoon – reviewing lease files, communicating with my field guys, conferring with my boss about some recent case law, and responding to emails. I finish around 4 and take a bath. I talk to one of my friends on her ride home from work and discuss how we feel like there’s another quarantine lock down coming. Will gets home around 5:30 and we make chicken flautas with pico for dinner.
6:30 – Will and I start brainstorming ideas for Thanksgiving dinner. It is more than likely just going to be the two of us, but we still want to make a full dinner and try out new recipes. We decide to practice a stuffing recipe this weekend to make with turkey, roasted veggies, homemade rolls and some sort of apple dessert. You know the drill – a couple episodes of LME and bed around nine.
Day Seven
4:00 – Fuck. I’m up. I stay in bed for two hours listening to podcasts and trying to fall asleep. I give up at six and watch TikToks until seven. I tell myself I have plenty of PTO, so maybe I’ll take off a couple hours this morning and take a nap. I put blackout curtains in our bedroom last night and that wasn’t helpful in staying asleep but hopefully it will allow me to take a nap.
7:30 – I head downstairs and go through my emails – there’s nothing urgent. I pick out some cookies to buy from a fundraiser at the school my brother works at ($30). I feel surprisingly good, but I think its adrenalin from all the news about PA potentially getting shutdown again on Friday.
11:30 – I eat 1.5 pierogis, a leftover flauta from last night, and an apple before heading to the grocery store. I get stuff to make lunches tomorrow night and then for us for two dinners later this week – ($54) I am starting to feel tired but make myself do a Peloton ride before an afternoon of meetings. I start a Dennis intervals and arms ride and I hate it, and after ten minutes, I check my phone and one of my bffs tells me to do Robin’s Lizzo ride. It was EXACTLY what my life needed. The trajectory of my day is completely changed, and I feel awesome. Just another reminder that I work out for my mental health first and physical health second.
1:30 – My boss decides to no call no show our weekly team meeting. 10/10 wonderful boss behavior. I have another long conference call at 2, so I eat a couple turkey lunch meat roll ups and listen in.
3:30 – Conference call over. I catch up on email and phone calls and am done at 4:30. I take a bath and talk on the phone to friend before prepping tonight’s dinner – bulgogi pork tenderloin with rice and roasted carrots.
6:00 – Dinner is truly delicious! Will and I catch up on our day, clean up the kitchen, and watch Last Man on Earth.
At the end of each day please tally up your daily expenses. Then at the end of your diary please tally up all expenses in the following categories:
Food + Drink: $247.91
Fun / Entertainment: $0
Home + Health: $33.93
Clothes + Beauty: $220.50
Transport: 132.15
Other: $0
Lastly, reflect on your diary!
This week had a couple abnormal spends with the hair cut and the EZ Pass situation. I would say that I try to keep my spending to $500/week, $2,000/month and I wasn’t too far off even with the unexpected issues. I’ll just keep things a little tighter for the next week or two. I am beyond grateful for my limited fixed monthly costs and think I’m doing a pretty good job of putting my money to good use and investing. I appreciate any and all additional advice!
